Firework Safety

Enjoy fireworks responsibly by following essential safety guidance.

SAFETY FIRST

Responsible Firework Use

Fireworks create unforgettable celebrations when used correctly and responsibly. Safety should always be the top priority whether you are hosting a small family gathering or organising a larger public event.

All fireworks supplied meet recognised British safety standards and must always be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Most accidents occur through misuse, so careful preparation and supervision are essential.

If you are unsure about any aspect of setting up or using fireworks, always seek advice before your event.

On The Night — Safety Checklist

  • Light fireworks at arm’s length using a safety lighter or portfire.
  • Never smoke while handling or lighting fireworks.
  • Limit the firing team to a small number of responsible adults.
  • Never aim or fire aerial fireworks towards spectators.
  • Do not allow guests to bring their own fireworks to the display area.
  • Leave misfired fireworks for at least 30 minutes before handling.
  • Never use petrol, paraffin or accelerants on bonfires.
  • Keep children and spectators away from the firing zone.
  • Do not allow anyone into the firing area once preparation has begun.
  • Ensure all fireworks are fully extinguished and the site is left safe afterwards.

General Firework Safety Advice

Always follow the instructions printed on each firework and observe recommended safety distances. Keep pets indoors where possible, supervise children at all times, and have water or a bucket of sand nearby in case of emergency.

Fireworks should only be used within permitted legal hours unless part of an authorised organised display. Never attempt to relight a firework and always dispose of used fireworks responsibly once fully cooled.

By planning ahead and following simple precautions, you can ensure your celebration remains safe, enjoyable and memorable for everyone attending.
